MOGADISHU – Two men armed with grenade bombs, have attacked on African Union peacekeeping troops on patrol in north of Somali capital Mogadishu.
Tuesday’s grenade bombs were hurled into the African Union (AMISOM) soldiers on patrol in Mogadishu’s Hiliwaa, a witness, who asked to be anonymous, said.
He says at least a woman had been killed and two others also injured in the explosion, adding that the AMISOM troops opened fire in response to the attack.
“I saw body of a woman and two other people, who were bleeding shortly after grenade bomb explosion in the area”, he said.
No soldier from African Union mission in Somalia was killed or injured in the bomb explosion, according to Abshir Karan, a deputy security chief in the area.
Karan says the victims had been rushed into hospital.
The attackers fled from the scene of the explosion.
Somali soldiers, along with AMISOM troops launched an operation which is being intended to arrest the culprits, he said.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for Tuesday’s grenade bomb explosion in the capital.
The attack comes a day after two people were killed and 11 others injured in suicide car bomb explosion near Wehliye hotel in Mogadishu.
