BARDERE —Kenyan forces have withdrawn from army camp in Bardere town in west of Somalia.
The Kenyan troops with armored vehicles and tanks were seen in the town after pulling out of thier base, residents said.
It is unclear the withdrawal made by Kenyan troops, who are serving under African Union mission in Somalia.
Mohamed Abdinur, spokesperson for governor of Gedo region, said that the African Union forces from Kenya had left the town.
He says Somali military soldiers are still controlling the town, adding that Gedo adminstration was not informed the Kenyan troops’ withdrawal.
“We don’t why the Kenyan forces have abondaned their base”, he said.
The Somali based group of Al Shabaab fighters are not away from the town, according to residents.
The local residents expressed concern that the militants could return to the town, and fighting against Somali soldiers.
There was no immediate response from the African Union mission in Somalia over the move made by Kenyan troops.
