WASHINGTON –This week, U.S. Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) met with Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire at his office in Washington, D.C. to discuss the several issues affecting Somalia, including the latest Trump Administration travel ban, and its impact on Somali families in Minnesota and across the country
Sen. Franken said the ban restricts travel from six majority-Muslim countries—including Somalia—and it will hurt Minnesota’s Somali-American community by tearing families apart.
“I told Prime Minister Khaire that I will fight this new travel ban and stand up for Somali Minnesotans whose families would be split up if the ban is put in place,” Sen. Franken said. “The Minnesota-Somali community has strengthened our state, and I’m grateful to have had the chance to discuss several issues that are important to both countries.”
