MOGADISHU – Somali PM Hassan Ali Khaire has ribbon-cut Turkey’s largest overseas military training base in Mogadishu.

The inauguration of the academy was attended by Turkish Armed Forces general, Hulusi Akar and other senior military officials from Somalia and Turkey.

“Somalia will never forget this huge help by our Turkish brothers. This base will help us for training of more Somali troops,” Khaire said.

For his part, Hulusi Akar says his government would continue supporting “our Somali brothers until their country becomes militarily stronger”.

Turkish military base in Mogadishu is spread out over 4 square kilometers and costs $50 million, according to Turkish military officials.
