MOGADISHU – Roadside bomb explosion has targeted an armored vehicle carrying Somali military soldiers near Mogadishu.

Sunday’s explosion hit the military convoy while travelling into Taredishe area near the capital, leaving two soldiers injured, a witness, who asked to be unnamed, said.

The main target of the bomb blast was a military commander, whose name has been identified as Aden Labo Afle, but he was unharmed from the bomb attack.

Two soldiers, who injured in the blast, were taken into a hospital in Mogadishu.

No group has claimed the responsibility for Sunday’s explosion, but such attack are often carried out by Al Shabaab.

The Shabab fighters fled fixed positions in Mogadishu 2011 and have since lost most large towns to a 22,000-strong UN-backed African Union force, fighting alongside government soldiers.

But the group’s fighters still hold sway in areas of the rural hinterland, from which they regularly launch attacks
