WAJID – Roadside bomb explosion hit an armored vehicle carrying African Union mission in Somalia (AMISOM) troops near Wajid town.
The blast went off as African Union troops from Ethiopian contingent were travelling through Burdhuhule area near the town, causing untold number of casualties.
Somali-based group of Al Shabab claimed the responsibility for Saturday’s explosion, saying it killed several senior Ethiopian officials.
“We are behind the explosion. We killed senior AMISOM officials in the bomb attack”, the group said on its website.
The African Union mission in Mogadishu did comment on the attack yet.
Al-Shabab ruled most of south-central Somalia until 2011, when it was driven out of the capital, Mogadishu, by AU troops.
Despite the loss of territory, the armed group, which wants to topple the internationally recognised government, still carries out major gun and bomb attacks.
