MOGADISHU – Heavily armed Al Shabaab fighters launched an ambush attack on army base near Bal’ad town, some 36km northeast of Somalia’s capital Mogadishu.
Somali-based group of Al Shabaab claimed to have killed six government soldiers when armed militants attacked on military base in Basra area near the town.
The group says on its website that the mujahedeen fighters had briefly took control of the Basra area, adding that several other soldiers were also injured.
No word was available from government officials over the claims made by Al Shabaab.
