Scores of people injured in strikes in south of Somalia

MOGADISHU – Unknown warplanes suspected to be from United States bombed targets held by Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab based in Somalia.

The airstrikes targeted a key Al-Shabaab controlled town of Barire, some 50km southwest of Somalia’s capital Mogadishu, leaving 8 people injured.

Residents say unknown warplanes stroke villages in the town, injuring civilians. The town is under control of Al Shabaab after Somali troops withdrew.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the strikes in Somalia.
