MOGADISHU – A Somali intelligence and security officer has been shot and killed by gunmen, believed to be member of Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab near Mogadishu.
The victim, whose name has been released as Beer Dilacshe was gunned down by men armed with pistols at Elasha area, some 15km west of Mogadishu, a witness said.
The killers fled from the crime scene.
Somali security soldiers cordoned off the area, and launched an operation over the killing.
The armed group of Al Shabaab claimed the responsibility for the killing, says its assassins shot and killed chief of security forces in Elasha area near the capital of Mogadishu.
“We have carried out the assassination killed Beer Dilacshe, a security chief in Elasha area. We’ll continue targeting government officials at every corner in Somalia”, the group said.
The group vowed to step up its guerrilla-style attacks against Somali army forces and African Union troops in south and central of the country.
