Religious leaders called to strengthen unity of Ethiopians

A thanksgiving program on the unification and reconciliation of the two Holy Synods of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church has been held in Addis Ababa at the Millennium Hall.

The first leg of unification and reconciliation program was held in Washington DC, the United States last week in the presence of Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed.

Today’s program was attended by Ethiopian Patriarchs His Holiness Abune Mathias and His Holiness Abune Merkorios, President Mulatu Teshome, the diplomatic community and followers of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.

President Mulatu on the occasion said “the reconciliation between the two synods of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church would help us to have a strong country.”

The President also called on religious leaders to discharge their responsibilities in strengthening the unity of the country.

Patriarchs of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, His Holiness Abune Mathias and His Holiness Abune Merkorios extended gratitude to Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed for his efforts in making the unification of the two Holy Synods a reality.

General Manager of Ethiopian Orthodox Church, Abune Dioskros, said the church will do its part to strengthen national unity. He also called on the youth to develop the culture of respect and tolerance

Various religious leaders on the occasion called for unity and togetherness. “We should join hands for the development, peace and prosperity of our country,” they said.
