Somali Islamist group seizes key area near Hudur town

HUDUR — Deadly fighting has broken out between Somali National Army (SNA) forces and Al Shabaab fighters near Hudur town, some 420 km from Mogadishu.

The battle flared up when heavily armed fighters from Al Shabaab launched an attack on army bases manned by government troops in Teed area lies about 30km from the town.

Deaths and injuries from both warring sides reported during Sunday’s fighting.

The group’s fighters have reportedly captured Teed area following hours of fighting against Somali army forces.

Somali military forces withdrew from the area over military tactics, according to sources, who asked to be anonymous.

The militant group took over the control of the seized town in March 2013 after Ethiopians made a surprise pullout

The fighters were driven out of Teed in 07 Mar 2014 by Somali troops aided by battalions from Ethiopia under African Union mission in Somalia
