A section of North Eastern leaders have called on the residents in the region to work closely and volunteer information to security agencies that will assist in fighting terrorism.
Lafey legislator Abdi Ibrahim and Omar Mohammed Maalim of Mandera East also urged the government to work closely with county leaders and residents in the fight against terrorism.
Speaking in a press briefing at parliamentary buildings, Mr Ibrahim said the residents need to closely cooperate with security agencies in their efforts in fighting Al-Shabaab and their sympathizers.
Mr Ibrahim said that matters of security is a collective responsibility which should not be left to the security agencies only.
The legislators said that the cooperation between the stakeholders in the region will curb the attacks allegedly masterminded by Al-shabaab terror group from neighboring Somalia.
“The residents need to share any intelligence that might be helpful to the government so as to help it counter any terror attempts in the region.”
“The local administrative units the chiefs, the sub-county officers, the DCs, must also be able to interact with the local communities in order to get intelligence beforehand and this intelligence must be acted upon by the forces on the ground,” added Mr Ibrahim.
Mr Maalim said the Kenya Defence Forces should be deployed along the border so that they can be able to minimize the movement of this terror groups from entering the country from Somalia.
