MOGADISHU, Somalia The al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab fighters have carried out an ambush attack on police station in Kenya
The attack triggered a clash between the armed militants and Kenyan police in Garissa town near Kenyan border along Somalia.
In a statement aired by Radio Andulus, an Al Shabab mouthpiece said, the group’s fighters had briefly seized Weil-marer area where police force stationed.
It is unclear the exact figure of casualty on the attack.
The group’s fighters also destroyed Safaricom Telecom mast with bomb explosions in Garissa.
Last year, the al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab militants destroyed Safaricom Telecom mast in Mandera town in northeast of Kenya.
The Al Shabaab fighters also carried out another attack that destroyed a Safaricom communication mast in Wajir county using rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs).
Kenya launched a military incursion against an Islamist militant group in Somalia in 2011, in retaliation for a wave of kidnappings of foreigners that has blighted its tourism industry.
The Kenyan and Somali troops had reportedly already driven Shabaab militants from two bases near the Kenyan border along Somalia.
The al Qaeda linked Al-Shabab controls much of southern Somalia, and for years has been locked in combat with government forces and their allies from the African Union peacekeeping Forces in Somalia.
