The EU said it has airlifted critical life-saving supplies donated by the World Health Organization (WHO) to flood-affected areas in Somalia.

The EU said on Friday the two back-to-back special flights for the WHO country office is in response to recent floods which have displaced thousands of residents in Belet Weyne, Jowhar, Kismayo and Baidoa.

The flights delivered 12,679 kilograms of supplies, namely oral rehydration solution, cholera saline and other emergency drugs for patient care.

“As a result of this successful operation, approximately 2,700 persons will benefit over the next three months from these life-saving medical supplies,” said the EU.

Heavy rains that have so far killed 24 and affected more than 900,00 others are predicted for the remainder of May and June
