Somalia: AMISOM vehicle hits woman in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU– An armored personnel carrier belonging to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) was reported to run over a woman in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu.

The tragic incident took place in the capital, when AMISOM vehicle hit a woman selling Khat on the side of the street, according to witnesses.

“AMISOM vehicles ran over an aged woman while selling Khat on roadside. I heard her laud screaming”, a witness, who asked to be anonymous, said.

 

The victim was immediately rushed into hospital for medical treatment, he said.

 

The incident saw a commotion between the AMISOM troops and Somalia Police, who stopped the driver of the vehicle shortly after the mishap.

Hundreds of people living in the capital city of Mogadishu residents are now living in fear of increasing road accidents by African Union troops’ convoys.

The AMISOM drivers are often accused of careless driving while travelling through the capital of Somalia as hundreds of people on board, including pedestrians use key roads in Mogadishu.

The vehicle, which was involved in Thursday’s mishap is said to have been seized.
